Both sports can be considered the most accessible sports in their respective environments, their ease of participation is simple yet can still create a challenge, both require only a friend to race against for competition and both maintain a great sense of community.  We could go on but you get the point. Despite the obvious differences, running and paddling are pretty similar! One big difference between the two sports [...]

2018-02-06T00:14:38+00:00

The Stand Up Paddle Athletes Association was formed to grow the sport of SUP while representing the interests of athletes, race officials, sponsors and industry personnel. We can go into the many positive initiatives we have started and are planning regarding SUP racing safety, access, participation and international standardization, however, right now there is something more pressing on our minds. Prize money. We’re not talking about prize money amounts, or the percentage split between men and women or any of those debates. We’re talking about prize money PAYMENT. Prize money payment, or rather the lack of prize money payment, is a [...]

The SUPAA Rulebook Is Now Available In Japanese!

2018-01-29T17:14:03+00:00

The support of SUPAA around the world has been amazing. In our first month we have members on 6 continents and over 15 countries. Without our members from all SUP backgrounds and skill levels, we would not be able to carry out our mission. We are very thankful for your support! Advisory board member and SUPAA representative for Japan, Tomoyasu Murabayashi, has translated the entire 2014 SUPAA Rulebook to Japanese. This is no easy task as Japanese writing systems are very complicated with an alphabet and grammatical rules completely different than English. Tomo was able to translate the entire 22-page rulebook [...]

SUPAA Working With UK SUP Clubs Race Series

2018-01-29T16:21:12+00:00

Stand up paddlers around the world are taking matters into their own hands. SUP racing is growing at an incredible pace and with that there is great fragmentation of the sport. SUPAA was formed in order to work to bring the sport together so that we can concentrate our efforts to make it bigger and better, not more divided. A group of the top paddlers from the UK contacted SUPAA in late 2013 to discuss the possibility of working with us on a new project they were developing. Tired of a divided race scene with conflicting dates and confusing rules, paddlers [...]
